Arnon Soffer: Founder

In 2004, Professor Arnon Soffer established the Chaikin Chair for Geostrategy at the University of Haifa and headed it until his retirement in 2016. He was among the founders of the University's Department of Geography.

His research addressed demography, water resources, Jewish–Arab relations, the development of Israel's periphery, environmental quality, and urban warfare, and he examined each in its political and strategic context. For decades, he taught at Israel's National Security College and in senior IDF command programs.
